it seems that the "bh" in Ní bheirim makes a "w" sound. Shouldn't it make a "v" sound since it's near slender vowels? Thank you.

Also, why does the "d" in Ní déarfaidh make a "y" sound. Shouldn't it make a "d" or "j" sound?

It all depends on what dialect you're learning. A native speaker of Cork Irish reads this verb paradigm at https://corkirish.wordpress.com/verb-co ... on/tugaim/ It is a v sound.

You're right. The recording is wrong. The 'bh' here is slender so it should not be pronounced as a w sound here. In my opinion that speaker's diction is not great. She made a couple of other pronunciation mistakes too.



Good question. Here is the pronunciation is correct but the spelling given in the corresponding text is wrong. It should be 'Ní dhéarfaidh', not 'Ní déarfaidh'.

This verb is not lenited. Ní déarfaidh is what is correct - and her pronunciation is wrong. See the grammar wizard on teanglann (enter abair and choose the future tense) for this. The reason this verb is not lenited is that it was once, centuries ago, adéarfaidh.
