On p63 of Cnósach Focal ó Bhaile Bhúirne, there is this:
Quote:
dá mbethá cortha de shiúl, 7 ceann dod bhrógaibh a bhaint díot, do bhrathfá bres mhuar mhisnigh ort fén

Is this some kind of saying or proverb? Why would taking off one of your shoes spur you on when you're tired of walking?

Not because of taking off one shoe but although taking it off.

7 (agus) is combining two "if" or rather "even if" clauses (the latter clause in the form of a verbal noun phrase):

Déarfá chomh maith:

(Fiú amháin) dá mbeifeá cortha de shiúil
agus
(fiú amháin) dá mbainfeá (nó: dá mbainfí) ceann de do bhróga díot

Being tired of walking and without one of your shoes - even then, you would still feel more ...

Thank you. I see now. CFBB contains very short quotes of local Irish, without any of the context, which renders some of the entries perplexing.
