With Seachtain na Gaeilge coming up, I was after doing something for it within our Gaelic Athletic Club in Little Rock, Arkansas. My thoughts came to teaching our players how to say the phrase " I am an American hurler" as Gaeilge with ending on "We are American hurlers and we have (a cúpla focal) Irish"

My best attempts are Is iománaí Meiriceánach mé. and Táimid iománaithe Meiriceánach.

I'm far less sure of the second and not at all sure of either to begin with. Thanks for your help y'all!

The first one looks good. You can also say "Tá mé (or "Táim") im iománaí Meiriceánach." (Maybe "i m'iománaí" is correct here.)

The second should be "Is iománaithe Meiriceánacha muid agus tá cúpla focal Gaeilge againn." Or "Táimid inár iománaithe Meiriceánacha agus tá cúpla focal Gaeilge againn." In the latter part, you can also use "Gaeilinn" or "Gaolainn" (or other alternate spellings) as this is what people use in the south (Munster).

Those look good to me.

But for Munster you’d need Gaelainne or Gaeilinne (or Gaolainne, etc.) with -e as it’s the genitive in cúpla focal Gaelainne. Also it’d be is iománaithe Meiriceánacha sinn (as muid generally does not exist as a pronoun in Munster), iománaithe Meiriceánacha is ea sinne would be another option for the fan of Munstrosities.
