Almost two decades ago I found out about the Irish triads and I use one of them as my favorite and a life motto. I've decided to tattoo it BUT the only version I knew was in English, and I want it in Irish (I am going to use the Ogham alphabet on this). I've been searching and searching online to see if there's an Irish version of it, but I couldn't find it anywhere, not even in Kuno Meyer's work. I took this specific triad from a compilation of triads by John F. Wright.

Can you guys translate it to me?

The triad is: " Three things from which never to be moved: one's oath, one's Gods,and the truth.

What you propose is a bit of a mix-n-match from different era.

Ogham was used for Primitive Irish around the 4th century. The triads are (mostly) from Middle Irish sources around the year 1400 (i.e. the Great Book of Lecan, the Yellow Book of Lecan, and the Book of Ballymote).

Are you asking for a Modern Irish translation? The triads are really belonging to a Middle Irish tradition.

This might not matter to you – it's different parts of one continuous spectrum, and ogham certainly looks cool if you're going for minimalist tattoos – but I thought I'd mention it.

Hey Ferdia! Thanks for your explanation, I knew that I actually wanted the closest translation I can get from the Middle Irish sources. But I thought maybe it would be too much to ask, so modern translation is fine by me. I believe Wright´s work is based on Modern Irish anyway. I want this mix between the old writing and the "new language". It´s like you said: a continuous spectrum Thanks a lot for spending your time on my request

Feperetti, Tim has thoughtfully left it to someone else to choose between 'uathu' and 'astu', which are often broadly interchangeable. I'd just go with 'uathu'.
