Here's another word I can't find in the dictionnary - bastable bread. I know what it is, but what's the word for it in Irish ?

Bastible -
I didn't know that English term until I googled it. :D
Baked in caste iron covered pot. We call that - arán bácúis

The traditional Irish bácús has three little feet, and a handle, so you can place it on the fire directly or swing it above the fire on a swivel.

That was certainly possible if you wanted to. The hearth was wide enough for multiple sections of fires.
When my father built this house there was an open traditional hearth. But by the time I was old enough to remember it was replaced by a stove. The big wide chimney is still at the back of it, as I know well when I have to dig the soot out once or so a year.
