In Cnósach Focal o BB there is this (p108):
Quote:
Bás gan fím gan suim sa tsaol so

There is no further context. I think fím and suim are meant to rhyme, and this just means "I hope you have a miserable death". Does anyone agree?

fím = feidhm, b’fhéidir?

gan feidhm gan suim = without use and significance

It could be. Even Brian Ó Cuiv has a "?" after this entry, showing he didn't understand it. It could be "gan feidhm", altered to rhyme with "gan suim".

After a search, I found this. It seems like a pattern sentence for curses. :LOL:
Does this help at all?

A chrui gan scim, gan suim sa tsaol so. (minus seimhiú as it was copied as is)

Tiom, that is a great find. Thank you for that. I did extensive searches myself and didn't turn up that, so I wouldn't have found it without you.

I guess "scím" is "scéim" set up to rhyme with "suím". Like "fím" might be "feidhm".

I'm in Corca Dhuibhne at the moment and a good native speaker didn't understand this.
