It's the Irish form of Francis

There are two examples of how it's pronounced on forvo.com

I second franc's suggestion to listen to the recordings at forvo (there is no substitute for hearing things spoken correctly!), but if you're just looking for a down-and-dirty rough guide to pronouncing it: PRUN-shuss. And yes, as franc also said...it's the Irish form of "Francis."

There are spelling variations, but I think the one with two Ns is more common.
Sometimes there is a fada on the second i too.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Quite right a Bhríd. Its my middle name and has a fada over the second i - Prionnsías= prun-she-ass for a man and Prionnsíos for a woman.(Prun-she-oss)

Thanks you for your help. My middle name is Francis and I had read somewhere that Proinsias, or Proinnsias, might be the Irish equvilent. Thanks again!

Oops! gaganess is upon me. I cannot spell my own name correctly. Of course it should be Proinnsías. Which reminds me that when I was young the name was pronounced Prung-she-ass but the ng sound of the double N after a slender vowel has fallen into disuse nowadays.
