It seems to be common practice to use an Irish word as an acronym for an organisation or body in Ireland. Here is an example:

DEIS is the Irish for 'opportunity' and it stands for 'Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools'. (A DEIS school is designated as disadvantaged.)

Suddenly I cannot think of another, maybe not such common practice..... :S

EOLAS (Embedded Objects Linked Across Systems) is actually an American software company, but the Irish acronym is deliberate.

That is very cool. 8-) I wonder how non-Irish speaking Americans react to that; do they just think it's a random group of letters? I presume the owner(s) are Irish?

"Is that any relation to LEGOLAS (from LOTR)?" :bolt:

The founder and chairman is an American named Dr. Michael Doyle (with a name like that, he must have some Irish ancestry).

We could ring them and listen to how they answer the phone; they are bound to say the name of the company. Then we could ask a question in Irish and blow their cover!
