Another one from Duolingo:

Tá mé cáilliúil, an bhfuil tú?

The oddness of the sentence aside, as far as I know, you can't say "an bhfuil tú" without an object for the verb, is that correct? It sounds very wrong to me, but I don't want to pontificate without being absolutely certain.

My inclination, if I were to say such a thing, would be to say something like:

Tá mé cáilliúil, cad (or ceard) futsa?

Couldn't you just say? - agus tusa?

Probably. But my question has to do with the use of "an bhfuil tú?" As far as I know, it's just plain wrong, but I want confirmation before I go sounding off.

I agree an bhfuil tú alone like that looks strange, but I'm not sure if it would be absolutely wrong.

Maybe ...nach bhfuil tú...would be better in this context.

As it's a contrast, I don't imagine it would work without the emphatic/contrast form tusa.

Definitely in that context I would say that too - "... an bhfuil tusa?"

Sometimes you can say "An bhfuil tú?" But that would be in general questions where the rest of the sentence is omitted as it is obvious what is intended.
