Hey all,

Tickets for Mary Mc Laughlin's "A Gaelic Christmas" concert, featuring her Cór Ainglí (North America's only dedicated Irish-language Christmas choir), of which I'm a member, are now on sale.

This will be our sixth year performing in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas of California, and the show is going to be better than ever!

We perform traditional Irish carols, as well as European and American carols that have been translated into Irish, and a few 13th Century Latin chants for variety. Accompaniment includes Irish flute, whistle, harp, guitar and bodhrán.

If anyone here happens to be attending the upcoming American Conference for Irish Studies West in San Jose this coming weekend, you'll get a chance to hear us do an abbreviated version of our concert at the banquet on Friday evening (10/21).

Our public concerts this year are:

Friday, December 9, 8:00 p.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 125 High St., Santa Cruz

Sunday, December 11, 2:00 p.m., at Vallombrosa Retreat Center, 250 Oak Grove Ave., Menlo Park

Sunday, December 18, 7:00 p.m., at Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Ave., Morgan Hill.

Tickets for the Santa Cruz and Morgan Hill concerts can be ordered via our website: www.coraingli.com. Tickets for the Menlo Park concert can be ordered via Vallombrosa's website: www.vallombrosa.org. Tickets will also be available at the door of each performance, while supplies last.

If you can't make it to any of the concerts, do still visit our website! We have some song samples on there, as well as a link to a televised performance of our 2009 concert. Irish in California...how great is that?

Another upcoming event that folks here might be interested in is the performance of the beautiful and evocative dance-theatre production "Selkie Tides." This production is based on the Irish and Scottish legends of selkies (or merrows, as they're known in Ireland) and includes some wonderful music, both original and traditional. Most of the songs are Scottish Gaelic, but there are two that are done in Irish: Fear a' Bháta and An Mhaighdean Mhara. Mary Mc Laughlin is the principle singer, but she's accompanied by six of us from Cór Ainglí (myself included) as a sort of "Greek chorus." The dancers are just amazing! Performances for "Selkie Tides" are:

Saturday, October 22, 8:00 p.m., in the Hal Todd Theatre, Hugh Gillis Hall, at 5th and San Fernando Streets, San Jose (this is also part of the American Conference for Irish Studies West, but this show is also open to the public)

Saturday, November 5, 7:30 p.m., at The National Steinbeck Center, One Main Street, Salinas.

Tickets for the Selkie shows may be purchased by going to www.brownpapertickets.com and typing "Selkie Tides" in the search box. They will also be available at the door, while supplies last.

Hope to see some of you there!
