This is a list of forms found for Erris. Can anyone else chime in with Munster and Donegal (and Conemara too, of course)?

http://forum.unilang.org/viewtopic.php? ... a&start=80

Future:

-faidh ------->/hə/

-far & fear ------->/fər/ & / f’ər/ (in Iorras Aithneach some speakers only /f’ər/)
-ófar/eofar ------->/o:fər/ (in Iorras Aithneach some speakers only /o: f’ər/)

Conditional:

-fadh & feadh------->/həx/

-fainn & finn ------->/həN’/

-fá & feá -------> /fɑ:/ & /f’ɑ:/ (in Iorras Aithneach always /hɑ:/)
-ófá/eofá -------> /o:fɑ:/ (in Iorras Aithneach always /o:hɑ:/)

-faidís & fidís -------> /həd’i:s/

-faí & fí ------->/fi:/ & /f’i:/ (in Iorras Aithneach some speakers only /f’i:/)
-ófaí/eofaí ------->/o:fi:/ (in Iorras Aithneach some speakers only /o:f’i:/)

* /h/ devoices b,d,g, bh & mh and elides e.g.: ghoidfidís /ɣet’əd’i:s’/
* /h/ elides after a voiceless obstruent /p(’) t(’) k(’) x(’) s(’)/ e.g.: seasfaidh /s’æ:sə/
* future and conditional ending in -f(…) convert /w(’)/ to /f(’)/ e.g.: snámhfaidh /snɑ:fə/

The forms in the list above are those for Iorras Aithneach, Co. Galway, not Erris (Iorras Domhnann), N.W. Mayo.

Erris (and other areas in Mayo if I remember correctly) preserves the old autonomous future ending '-fidhear', pronounced /hi:r/, which became '-fear' elsewhere under the influence of '-tear'.

In Munster the 'f' in these endings is generally pronounced /f/ in the autonomous and the 2nd person singular conditional. /h/ elsewhere.
The /f/ will be consistently slender or broad, regardless of the quality of a preceeding consonant.

Yeah, in Munster -fí, the conditional autonomous, is always slender* and -far, the future autonomous, is always broad. The second person conditional -fá is always broad.

As for how they are pronounced it is a bit difficult.

For the other forms of the conditional and the future the f is a h, but really that means that the previous consonant is devoiced:

lúbfadh => lúbthadh => lúpadh

and Munster native speakers do notice if you get this wrong.

*Some have it always broad.

In Donegal, the -f- or the future and conditional is always pronounced like an h- (which devoices b, g, d).
Some speakers pronounce the f as f in the verb "tchífidh" (will see), and h in all other verbs.

An bhfuil na R-anna agus na L-anna (agus m, n) neamhghlórach san aimsir fháisteanach i nDún na nGall?

Is mór an trua go bhfuair sé bás an bhliadhain seo caite. Grásta ó dhia air.

D'amharc mé an teideal I.A. an deiridh seachtaine thart sa Scoil Léinn Cheiltigh agus bhí fiche faoin chéad as mar a rabh comhdháil ab'ainm 'Tionól' ar siúl. Bhí 160 euro air ansin. Níor cheannaigh mé é ach b'fhéidir ocht leabhar eile, ar a n-áirítear Survey of the Gaelic dialects of Scotland: questionnaire materials collected for the Linguistic Survey of Scotland leagadh ó 170 go 16 euro :good:

And as regards the -f-, I juut devoice all and sundry, just to be safe :)
