Most immersion weekends have classes for complete beginners. I think you might find that attending one would build up your courage.

It's a good article for sure, and does give me a bit of encouragement by the end of it. Something I need to work on more is trying to self-immerse myself. There was a website that recommended putting little signs on items around the house. I have put a few, but really need to put up more. That might be my project for today.

One of the first things I tell my classes is to buy a packet of Post-its. Every week I give them a list of vocabulary words for a different room in the house.

I tell folks that I went so crazy with the labeling thing when I was first learning that even the dog and cat had labels! I stopped at labeling people, but only because my daughter flatly refused to wear a badge saying "m'iníon" (she thought it looked too much like "minion").

Good practice - my sister in law is learning Mandarin and has post-its all over the house - alas my husband says: there is a limit and that is over the line. Ah scamallach! As a confirmed winter-hater, I've been known to use "sneachta" and "sioc" as curse words. "Báisteach" isn't far behind, though we're so desperate for rain here right now I'm biting my tongue on that one.
