I've just come across this - there are two words for light - soilse, which would mean brightness or light in a more general way (apparently) and solas (not to be confused with sólás, of course)
In the Midnight Court, in line four there's -

Gan mhairg, gan mhoill le soilse an lae.

I suppose he's using the first one (which would be in the plural) but what is the nuance between soilse an lae and solas an lae?

I seem to have made a mistake - this is in the wrong forum - it should be in the Gaeilge one. :dhera:

The Bards tended to use Soilse to refer to blinding light or royal light or power. Basically it's more impressive or dazzling than solas.

Another possiblity is that it should be -
"Gan mhairg gan mhoill ar shoilseadh an lae"
I found some references to that online, and on this plague.

The poem is very old, maybe the original meaning was lost. I'm just wondering, I have no idea really.

I found this video too-

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.
