So my dictionaries give próca, crúsca, crúiscín (for a small one) and even searróg as words meaning "jar". Anyone know which I should use when meaning a jar used to put honey, oil, etc in? Actually, here is a photo of the type of jar I mean on DeviantArt's art site: http://naked-in-the-rain.deviantart.com/art/Sweet-September-328561819 Google Image Results return all kinds of junk whenever I enter any of these words, so I'm wondering if these actually are the Irish word for it.

Thanks in advance. :)

I'd say 'pota' for a jar
'pota subh' for a jar of jam - perhaps I should really say 'pota suibhe', but who's counting :)

'pota beag' or 'crúsca beag' = a small jar

'crúiscín' pictures more of a jug or a little jug for me...

You'd put oil into a 'canna' usually... or maybe a 'buidéal' or a 'buidéal plaisteach' if it was handier...

...I am sure there will be more to come in with other words, so I will keep an eye on this with interest....

Q. When is a door not a door?
A. When it's ajar.

Totally unhelpful, but couldn't resist!
