Does anyone know of any good sources for expressions in Irish, (particularly Munster).

I keep hearing things that don't seem to make much sense to me when i translate the words individually.
for example i was greeted with what sounded like "tá sé abú" , which I didn't understand and had no response for beyond an inarticulate grunt.

Id say only 20% of the time people greet me it matches something ive seen in a book or learning material.

With such everyday phrases there's likely to be a strong accent, potentially making it more difficult to understand. Lots of Irish material strays very far from the spoken langauge, and is definitely a problem for learners trying to understand native speakers.

Seeing as it's Munster, you might have heard Conas taoi/Conas ataoi. Maybe Conas 'tá tú inniu spoken really quickly, but that wouldn't make sense, because in Munster inniu doesn't finish with a ...yoo sound, ...yuv.

Maybe others can be of more help.

That it is. I love finding pseudo-Béarlachas phrases that have deeper roots than we might have thought :)

sure whats to say some of the phrases didn't transfer the other way round, given the massive emigration of Irish to the UK and North America. And now we just assume they came from English.

Im not saying its the case with all of them, but im sure some could have a origin in Irish .
