I have a question for those with a knowledge of Irish surnames, Did the name name Joyce originate only in Ireland? I read before that it was "de Jorse" and before that "josses".

Thanks

Swisscheese

Joyce (Seoighe) Thomas de Jorse (of French Norman stock) came to Ireland from Wales in 1283 and married a daughter of O'Brien, Prince of Thomand. This couple then went by sea to Galway. Through power- marriages and trade they eventually became one of the Fourteen Tribes of Galway. Over 80% of Joyces in Ireland come from Galway or Mayo.
