I used this phrase on Facebook the other day, was not quite sure if I did it correctly, and now, being my obsessive self, am virtually certain I got it wrong, and want to make sure I get it right the next time. Help greatly appreciated.

Hi Redwolf,

Déarfainn:

tugann (bheir) an pictiúr seo i mo cheann é -- the verb form in brackets is only here in Ulster I think...

cuireann an pictiúr seo i gcuimhne dom é

Slán,

An Braonach

This is what I would use too.

And here I've been beating myself up thinking I had it wrong! "Cuireann an pictiúr seo i gcuimhne dom é" is what I wrote.

GRMA!

 Well done, I never would have wrapped my brain around that sentence.

Sometimes with these things it's a matter of it just suddenly looking or sounding wrong. You know how, if you say an English word several times in a row, it tends to lose meaning and just become sound? Or how you'll start to write a familiar word in English and suddenly have to ask yourself "is that really the right way to spell it? It looks wrong." It happens with Irish too, especially if, like me, you're prone to second-guessing yourself.

Cuireann a' pioctúr seo i gcuimhne domh é
(pioctúr pronounced as if it were "pioctar": /p'iktər/)

Well, for the record the Connemara version would be:

Cuireann a' peictiúr seo i gcuimhne dhom é.

(with cuimhne pronounced /ki:w´r´ə/, or in Cois Fhairrge /ki:m´r´ə/.)

Should be a slender 'r' in Ulster dialect I think - pioctúir...
