A chairde,

Tá súil agam go raibh samhradh deas agaibh agus gur éirigh libh go leor léitheoireachta a dhéanamh cois farraige (nó más in Éirinn a bhí sibh, cois tine, b’fhéidir) agus go bhfuil sibh chomh sceitimíneach céanna is atá muidne faoin tsraith úrnua de ClubLeabhar.com. Seanleabhair agus cinn nua, ficsean agus neamhfhicsean, filíocht agus fealsúnacht: tá meascán álainn de leabhair spreagúla againn le sibh a choinneáil ag léamh agus ag plé go ceann cúpla mí ar a laghad!

Mí Mheán Fómhair

An Béal Bocht le Myles na gCopaleen

“Ceann de na saothair phróis is fearr dá bhfuil againn sa nua-Ghaeilge” is ea An Béal Bocht le Myles na gCopaleen agus tá sé roghnaithe againn mar leabhar mhí Mheán Fómhair le tús maith a chur leis an tsraith nua. Níl scigaithris ná aoir le fáil i litríocht na Gaeilge atá chomh greannmhar agus chomh cliste le clasaic seo Bhriain Uí Nualláin. Is gá d’aon duine gur spéis leis litríocht na Gaeilge cóip den tseoid seo de leabhar a bheith ina sheilbh aige.

Le gairid, labhair ClubLeabhar.com leis an scoláire agus file Louis de Paor faoin saothar. Is féidir an méid a bhí le rá aige a fheiceáil ach cliceáil anseo, nó is féidir féachaint air ag léamh sleachta ón leabhar ach cliceáil anseo.

Is féidir sliocht a léamh ón leabhar ach cliceáil anseo, nó is féidir An Béal Bocht a cheannach ó www.siopa.ie ach cliceáil anseo.

Mí Dheireadh Fómhair

Seán Ó Ríordáin: Na Dánta
Den chéad uair riamh tá saothar iomlán an fhile Seán Ó Ríordáin bailithe le chéile faoi aon chlúdach amháin sa leabhar Seán Ó Ríordáin: Na Dánta agus is é an cnuasach sin atá roghnaithe againn mar leabhar na míosa do mhí Dheireadh Fómhair. Mar a deir eagarthóir an leabhair, Seán Ó Coileáin, agus é ag tagairt don Ríordánach: “Bhain sé geit as an teanga faoi mar nár bhain duine eile le fada riamh”. Tá 100 dán sa chnuasach seo a thugann léargas iontach ar stíl shuaithinseach duine de mhórfhilí na Gaeilge sa 20ú haois.

Is féidir Seán Ó Ríordáin: Na Dánta a cheannach ar www.siopa.ie ach cliceáil anseo.

Mí na Samhna

An Prionsa Beag le hAntoine de Saint-Exupery
An Prionsa Beag (Le Petit Prince), nóibhille cháiliúil Antoine de Saint-Exupery, atá roghnaithe againn mar leabhar mhí na Samhna. Foilsíodh an leabhar seo den chéad uair i 1943 agus tá sé ar cheann de na saothair litríochta is mó díol ar domhan anois. Tá sé aistrithe go breis is 250 teanga agus anois tá aistriúchán álainn Gaeilge déanta ag an údar Ultach Breandán Ó Doibhlin ar an saothar.

Is féidir An Prionsa Beag a cheannach ar www.siopa.ie ach cliceáil anseo.

Mí na Nollag

An Ghaeilge i gCéin

Tá an eisimirce mar chuid de scéal na hÉireann leis na cianta agus tugtar léargas i leabhar mhí na Nollag, an bailiúchán aistí An Ghaeilge i gCéin, ar shaol roinnt cainteoirí Gaeilge atá ag cur fúthu thar lear. Dírítear sa leabhar ar fhéiniúlacht agus teanga i gcomhthéacs idirnáisiúnta agus an dearcadh nua i leith na Gaeilge atá acusan nach bhfuil ag cur fúthu in Éirinn. Is bailiúchán spéisiúil é seo ina bhfiosraítear an nasc idir tír agus teanga agus ina bhféachtar ar na féidearthachtaí nua-aimseartha atá ann don Ghaeilge.

Is féidir An Ghaeilge i gCéin a cheannach ar www.siopa.ie ach cliceáil anseo.

I mbliana, tá tairiscint speisialta, lascaine de 10%, ag www.siopa.ie do léitheoirí ar mian leo na ceithre leabhar thuas a cheannach le chéile. Cliceáil anseo leis an deis seo a thapú.

Leagan Gaeilge thuas

I hope you had a nice summer and that you managed to do plenty of reading by the seaside (or if you were in Ireland, by the fireside, perhaps) and that you’re as excited as we are about the brand new Clubleabhar.com series. From old to new, fact to fiction, poetry to philosophy, we have a compelling mixture of books to keep you reading and discussing for another few months at least!

September

An Béal Bocht by Myles na gCopaleen

An Béal Bocht by Myles na gCopaleen is “one of the greatest works of prose that exists in modern Irish language literature” and we’ve chosen it as September’s book of the month to ensure a strong start to the new series. No parody or satire in Irish language literature can rival Brian O’Nolan’s hilarious classic, which should be an essential part of the book collection of anyone who has an interest in Irish language literature.

ClubLeabhar.com recently spoke to writer and scholar Louis de Paor about the book; click here to see what he had to say, or to see him read an extract from the book click here.

If you’d like to read an extract the book click here, or click here to purchase it on www.siopa.ie.

October

Seán Ó Ríordáin: Na Dánta

For the first time ever the entire published work of Cork poet Seán Ó Ríordáin is gathered together under one cover in Seán Ó Riordáin: Na Dánta, which we’ve chosen as October’s book of the month. According to the editor of this collection, Seán Ó Coileáin, Ó Ríordáin “startled the language in a way that no one had done for a long time”. There are over 100 poems in this collection, giving the reader a wonderful insight into the distinctive style of one of Ireland’s most important poets in the 20th century.

November

An Prionsa Beag by hAntoine de Saint-Exupéry
November’s book of the month is An Prionsa Beag (Le Petit Prince), Antoine de Sint-Exupery’s classic novella out of which springs an enormous universe for the reader to explore. First published in 1943, Le Petit Prince is now one of the bestselling books in the world. It has been translated into more than 250 different languages and now Breandán Ó Doibhlin’s beautiful translation gives readers a chance to enjoy this work in Irish for the first time.

December

An Ghaeilge i gCéin

Emigration has long been a feature of Irish life and December’s book of the month, a collection of essays entitled An Ghaeilge i gCéin (The Irish Language Abroad), gives an insight into the life of various Irish speakers living outside Ireland. The books focuses on identity and language in an international context and on the thoughts regarding the language of those using it abroad.

We’re always delighted to hear your opinions on the current series of books or on literature in general on the ClubLeabhar.com forum. There’s no need to worry about your grammar or standard of Irish. And, if you have any suggestions regarding the site, please let us know!

Bígí ag léamh, mar sin, agus bígí ag scríobh.
