(O) Gaffigan (Gavigan) - Ó Gáifeacháin (old spelling Ó Gaibhtheacháin)

Ó Gaibhtheacháin
Oh GAFF-ukh-awñ (or GAV-ukh-awñ)
/o: gæfəxɑ:n´/ (/o: gæw´əxɑ:n´/

Slender bh is normally a v sound but the th (an h sound) often causes devoicing of the preceding consonant, changing the v sound to a harder f sound, hence the two anglicizations Gaffigan and Gavigan.

Little (phonetic) typo:

Quote:
Oh GAFF-uhk-awñ

Oh GAFF-ukh-awñ

In Ulster we'd say "oh GAH-fah-hahn", I think :)
