Note that the uppercase syllables are where the beats in the song lie. (I found it helpful to write things this way when I first began singing in Irish.) I've slurred together words that need to be slurred to fit the metre; they wouldn't necessarily be pronounced that way when speaking normally. And of course, phonetics are only approximate.

It's an Ulster song and your phonetic transcriptions don't look like Ulster one. But anyway.

Redwolf: sigh, the song in the video, although it's a song from Ulster, is sung by Méav, who speaks Munster Irish, and she pronounces that song more or less with a Munster pronunciation (nach dtug tú sin fá dear?). And Mhwombat transcribed it as Méav pronounces it. That's why I said it wasn't an Ulster pronunciation.
If you don't believe me I can give you examples of what isn't Ulster. And you can also listen to Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh singing that song (even though it's not the same version but most verses are the same)... You'll see the difference from Méav's one.

That's the first one I ever heard and still my favourite.

Unfortunately with Irish music, the lyrics aren't always correct on the net and don't always match the version you are looking for - often not even in the album sleeve notes in the artists' own CDs (or cassettes or records, if you go back that far. ) that the songs appear on.

mhwombat has still done a wonderful job collating all the bits and pieces into a singable version. It is easy to be critical when someone else has done all the hard work. Fair play to her for putting it out there for us.
