'Déan suas d'aigne' nó 'déan d'aigne suas' is surely Béárlachas, isn't it? I heard one of them recently, but it sounds all wrong. What is the best way to say, 'Make up your mind'?

It may well be Béarlachas but, if it is, it's long-established Béarlachas! D'intinn a dhéanamh suas is in FGB.

Long established? Cá bhfios duit?

To make up your mind is "do chomhairle a dhéanamh", isn't it?

For me that would mean more like "to take somebody's advice" or if you said to somebody "déan do chomhairle féin" - do whatever you want to do.

Of course there could be a different meaning in the North.

Ah! That depends on what is meant by 'long'. What's long to me isn't necessarily long to you (or indeed my wife!).

I really meant to say that I have heard it said many times over the years and while I am not a native speaker, I have been taught by or had dealings with native speakers a fair bit over that time. It's in Irish as long as FGB has been around anyway.
In L McCionnaith's English-Irish dictionary (1935) it gives dhein sé acht [suas] é do dhéanamh under the heading 'decide'. I realise that this is not the same really, but the 'déan suas' bit seems to be along the same lines in terms of the influence of English. (?)

Begod ach tá sé sách deacair dom m'intinn a dhéanamh suas faoin gceann sin, a chairde!

Difficult to make the mind up on that one, lads!!
