It's not grammatically Munster Irish, but it does flow like Munster Irish if that makes any sense. As if

That could well be the case. It would be very typical for a translator to English to use a standardized form in writing. The dialect forms in Irish are distinct enough that I could see a "blás" creeping in, even if the writer is more or less conforming to the caighdeán.
There's a very interesting bit at the beginning of the books that tells how he dealt with the runes, and with concepts that aren't native to Irish, such as the elves. It's humbling to see just how much work went into this translation.
If he goes on to translate The Lord of the Rings it will be interesting to see how he handles the English dialect differences that crop up in those books.
