drannadh - coming near/interfering/baring teeth

. :>: .

Sometimes I say words automatically that I wouldn't be able to remember if I was asked for a particular translation. Like recently I was out walking and Aindí, my dog, was trying to hide behind me as he was afraid of a neighbouring german shepherd. And I said to him "níl sé ag drannadh leat" (he's not coming near you).

Sciob sceab = scramble

. :>: .

The dictionary says "scramble", I'm not sure if that really explains it fully.
Sciob(adh) is to grab. For example if there was a sale in a shop and there was a crowd of people and items were selling very fast. It doesn't mean that people were literally grabbing things out of your hands although that is probably the figurative meaning.
