You're a funny, funny man, a WFM! I have but a fraction of the Irish you have. This is so far beyond my skill level that I think I must have been nuts to try it! :bash: But....I'm in it now! I'll be starting Caibideal a dó this weekend, I hope. It's going so much slower than I anticipated that I'm having trouble squeezing it in around work, chores and kids. I'm pretty much limited to weekends. However, :nail:

Just imagine how funny I would be if I were actually TRYING to be funny! ;)

I'm pretty sure it's a very large fraction indeed, but I know that you're too good-natured and humble to admit it.

Now that ya mention it, most people think I'm nuts to try learning this language in the first place. :) Just imagine how great it will be when we can read Séadna cover to cover without having to look up anything! *glances wistfully into the horizon*

I'm about half-way done with Caibideal a Dó; if all goes well, I hope to be starting Caibideal a Trí sometime next week. :reading:

Lads, just like to say that what yer doing is an unbelievable achievement, there's students here that have been learning the language for years and they wouldn't handle Peadar Ua Laoghaire's works. I know it probably feels like you've just jumped into the deep end without being able to swim, but that's the best way to learn how to swim  ;) .

Yeah, don't worry if it takes a while to read, it's objectively quite a hard book, so you're doing really well.

Also I should say caibideal a ceathair is quite hard, so don't worry if you start struggling when you reach it. The book starts to become easier from caibideal a naoi onward.

I noticed WeeFalorieMan you gave an example of the construction "Ní foláir nó...", I should say for quite a few phrases Cork Irish uses nó where go was traditionally used in older forms of Irish. The nó means "that" rather than "or".

;) , apologies :D . "Lads" is often used in Ireland when talking to a group that can be made up of boys or a group of girls and boys. The word "lass/lassies" is very uncommon in Ireland except for the phrase "lads and lassies"

It's funny. When I read Aislingeach's comment, I looked back to see where there was a reference to being male and couldn't find one! It is because in Ireland, we regularly say 'lads' regardless of gender so I didn't even notice it. 'Lass' is more Scottish than Irish.
