Fáilte, a Heather. You'll find lots here to help your Irish, I'm sure.

Dia dhaoibh! Aly is ainm dom. I'm very new to Irish and I'm excited to be here to learn. :D I came to this forum seeking lyrics to one of Moya Brennan's songs (An Seanduine Doite, to be precise). Music is what drew me to Irish in the first place, so I suppose that's appropriate. My mother introduced me to the music of Enya very young, and as I've gotten older I've branched out to Anuna and Clannad. I also enjoy The Chieftain's music.

I'm a lover of languages, being a fantasy novelist, so although I started out just wanting to learn Irish pronunciation, what I learned drew me in irrevocably. I don't have a whole lot of time to give to this learning pursuit, so my progress will be slow and steady. My goal is to be able to write and speak Irish as fluently as possible.

I'll probably be mostly reading for a while, but I'm going to push myself to learn. After all, you can't learn to communicate in a language if you never use it to communicate.

I'm excited to meet you all! Slán go fóill!

Dia dhaoibh a Chairde,

Daniel is ainm dom (even that may not be correct). I am from Boston, now living in Los Angeles, but my grandparents are all from Ireland (Kerry and Galway). From them, I know a handful of phrases in Irish and have always wanted to speak but have not yet learned. In the immediate, I am incorporating a bit of Irish into a piece of writing (I am a writer) and am looking for some accurate assistance with some phrases. I hope it will be ok to post such things in the Translation forum. Thank you for your work in creating and nurturing this site!

Dia daoibh! Aodh is ainm dom. I've been learning and trying to keep Irish now for several years of my life. I am American by passport. I am québécois by culture and people, and I am now living in Ukraine. French (of Québec) is my childhood and first language, but I am okay in English too. I am not bad in Irish. I have a great grandfather who came from Ireland and he was an Irish speaker. He died before I was born, sadly, but they say I have his nose. There are other Irish relatives and the culture, music and history have always fascinated me. In my culture, the contribution from Irish people is vast, which you can hear if you listen to québécois music.

You can speak with me in Irish, French or English - or Scottish Gaelic.

Regards....

Hi! Is mise Oscar. I'm an intermediate learner of Irish, and live in the West of Ireland. :good: Hope to profit greatly from this forum, and maybe help a few other people.

Fáilte romhat a Oscar! Since you live in the West, your observations may be very helpful for others.
