Well, you might be able to read Grá duit féin ar dtús as "Love for yourself first", perhaps adding the emphatic ending to get Grá duitse féin ar dtús ("Love for yourself first").
I think those work as well.
The initial offering by Murchadh is also sound, but in all of them I kind of feel the
ar dtúis/ar dtús is a bit weak.
Some alternatives are:
i dtús báirei dtosach báireI dtosach báire, bíodh grá agat duit féin. (CO)
"First, love yourself."
To explain the one I gave in an earlier post:
Is túisce grá duit féin. (CO)
"Love for yourself comes first."
Like the English, this tacitly implies a "than ~", which could equally be appended as
ná ~, but is deliberately left out:
Is túisce grá duit féin (ná rud ar bith eile). "Love for yourself comes first/(before anything else)."
Is túisce grá duit féin (ná grá do dhuine ar bith eile). "Love for yourself comes first/(before love for anyone else)."
