I remember trying to create a time line in Irish (in the other place) that included such typically French moments of the day as - apéritif, pousse-café, sieste coquine, un petit creux, un petit verre avant de se coucher - only to be told very sternly that the soft Irish climate doesn't allow for such things, not to mention the opinion of the parish priest.

would love to know what they mean in english

I'm sure you must know the first one - greadóg - un pousse-café would probably be - licéar (or as we say here - un digestif, though when I say that in English, they think I'm talking about biscuits)- une sieste coquine is when you feeling just that little bit sleepy when you're after your dinner, but you don't want to be alone - un petit creux is when your stomach is telling you that it needs just a little something just to keep it going - un petit verre avant de se coucher - a little glass of something just before going to bed ie a nightcap - and how might you say those as Gaeilge, hein ? alors ? ;)
