I was hoping that I could get some assistance with the grammar and pronunciation of a tattoo that I have designed to represent both my heritage and my passion for soccer.

I want it to say: I live to play the beautiful game

Right now the translation I have is "Maírím an cluíche álaínn a ímírt"
And if I'm not mistaken its pronounced something like "Ma-rim an clay-huh allan a imurt"

This translation is from a friend of mine's professor in Ireland but I wanted to get more opinions before I get it tattooed on my body.

There's a lot of excess fada's (accents) in your sentence, but it is a direct translation, yes.

Maraim an cluiche álainn a imirt is how it should be spelled. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a more idiomatic translation, so please wait for others.

I think that "mair" is the wrong verb here. It implies that you would not be able to survive without the game, not that you live your life for its sake.

Actually Redwolf that is what it's supposed to mean. I know it sounds a little dramatic but in my soccer culture it's a fairly common expression. Unless the translation implies something a bit dofferent of course.

Well, "mair" implies survival, not so much the concept of "living for the sake" of something. In other words, it sounds as if you would (literally) die if you didn't play soccer, as opposed to it being the central focus of your life. That's why I suggested the other translation.
